Or, let’s release the drums from the fish bowl!
I’ve been chatting to a few people since publishing our first tutorial, so I just had to jump in and make another drum mixing video for you guys. After all, I do love making natural drums punch and hit hard.
The drum recording I used today is a great example of a live recording of drums on stage inside a fish bowl. A local church recorded this through their live console as part of a song demo. Yep, a live demo on stage.
The recording comes with 7 channels of drum tracks. Kick, snare, 3 toms and stereo overheads.
You’ll notice that we can really hear the drum cage. But we can play with this as the overheads almost sound like room microphones for the kit. This will come in handy later in the mix.
Is it really possible to make a simple recording like this sound like a studio take? Let’s see how we can make these drums punch and hit hard.
